Congratulations on your admission to CSULB! As you make your decision whether or not to attend CSULB, we encourage you to learn about and consider the summer bridge programs listed. Participating in summer programs the summer before college gives you the opportunity to:

  • Enhance your academic preparation
  • Learn about college expectations

STEM Students

STEP into STEM

June 21 – July 2, 2021

1:00 pm – 4:00 pm, Mon. – Fri.

Two week online program where STEM students engage in math preparation and placement, workshops to get familiarized with student resources and services, and build relationships with other STEM peers, faculty and staff.

Who can apply?

  1. Incoming freshmen with a pre-major in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and College of Engineering
  2. Placement in trigonometry (Math 111) and pre-calculus (Math 113) or Calculus 1 (Math 122)

Why should I join?

  • It’s free!
  • Learn about college expectations
  • Connect to other peers, faculty and staff
  • Gain confidence in your math skills
  • Prepare for the ALEKS for math placement alongside your peers

Engineering Students

BESST Engineering Summer Academy

August 16 – August 20, 2021

1:00pm – 4:00pm, Mon. to Fri.

One-week Engineering Summer Academy, part of a year long academic program where students take courses in a cohort to increase community with peers and faculty, ultimately increasing academic performance

Who can apply?

  1. Incoming freshmen who are pre-Engineering majors
  2. Students who place in pre-calculus(Math 113) and trigonometry(Math 111)or Calculus 1

Why should I join?

  • It’s free!
  • Exposure to student resources and services
  • Form Friendships with other Engineering students
  • Engage in leadership workshops and industry site tours
  • Merit based scholarship opportunities

Early Start Math

Early Start Program

June 21 – July 16, 2021

The Early Start Program gives incoming freshmen the opportunity to enroll in remedial English and/or mathematics/quantitative reasoning classes, with instructional support during the summer before their freshmen year

Who can apply?

  1. Students who require additional support based on multiple measures are encouraged to enroll in the appropriate Early start class

Why should I join?

In ESM 100, you will

  1. have a unique opportunity to try and place into the highest level of mathematics course you are eligible to take for your major at CSULB via ALEKS PPL,
  2. receive one elective unit toward your degree program at any of the 23 CSU campuses, including CSULB,
  3. have an opportunity to avoid taking a one-unit co-requisite class when taking a General Education Category B4 mathematics class at CSULB, and
  4. get a head start to meet other freshmen and faculty mentors who can help you navigate through a myriad of requirements and resources during the overwhelming first year of college.

EOP Students

EOP Summer Bridge Program

July 6 – August 2, 2021

Four week program for freshmen admitted to the CSULB Educational Opportunity Program(EOP). Students engage in workshops and activities designed to enhance academic preparation.

Who can apply?

  1. Freshmen admitted to the CSULB EOP Program
  2. Require early start classes for Math and/or English

Why should I join?

  • It’s free! Housing, meals, workshops, books and school supplies are provided
  • Get a head start by taking Math and English workshops
  • Receive tutoring
  • Become familiar with campus resources, services and their locations
  • Experience living in college dorms
  • Attend SBP in place of taking Early start classes
