Summer Bridge Program


he Summer Bridge Program (SBP) is a program that allows first-time freshmen students experience the California State University, Long Beach environment prior to entering the fall term. Students will bridge the gap between high school and college through academic coursework, enrichment activities, and the opportunity to build relationships and network with students, faculty and staff. It is mandatory that all EOP freshmen attend either Summer Bridge residential or commuter program or they cannot participate in the EOP program starting the Fall semester .

Residential Summer Bridge

The Summer Bridge Program Residential (SBP) is a four-week (July 06, 2019 – August 2, 2019) program of courses and activities designed to prepare you for the challenges of a four-year university. Residential Summer Bridge is designed for students that need further preparation in math and English skills before the Fall 2019 semester begins. Students in the program will be required to take Early Start Math requirement in addition to English workshops to prepare students for college level composition courses. SBP students will live in the residence halls for all four weeks of the program. There is no cost to participate in the residential program.

Commuter Summer Bridge

Commuter Bridge will consist of a one week program for all incoming EOP students not participating in Residential Bridge. Commuter Bridge program sessions will be held July 16 – August 2. During this program, students will be required to attend workshops and activities on EOP program history and services, campus and leadership involvement, financial aid and utilization of student support services. A simulated class lecture will also be conducted by the Ethnic Studies department to help students understand academic expectations, classroom etiquette, and importance of developing positive rapport with faculty.

All Commuter Bridge program sessions will be held Tuesday-Friday from 8:00am-12:00pm.

Session III: July 30 -August 2
