CECS Introducing Colloquium Series

The Long Beach State Department of Computer Engineering and Computer Science this semester will be launching a Colloquium Series to provide a forum for industry best practices and to make research more tangible for students.

Each semester, there will be 4-5 talks by invited speakers from academia and industry, said CECS Assistant Professor Birgit Penzenstadler.

The first talk will be on Thursday, Sept 28 from 12:30-2 p.m. in VEC-110. It will feature Ph.D. candidate Jayden Khakurel, who will discuss Human-centered Design and Wearables.

Other speakers include:

  • Prof. Dr. Olaf Droegehorn, who will speak about Smart Homes on Oct. 26
  • Prof. Dr. Christian Berger, who will discuss Self-driving Vehicles on Nov. 16, and
  • Prof. Dr. Jari Porras, speaking about Sustainability in Higher Education on Dec. 7.

All of the Colloquium Series talks will take place in VEC-110 from 12:30-2 p.m.

Droegehorn is a professor for Software Engineering and Internet Technologies and rector for Information and Communication Technologies and E-Learning at Germany’s Harz University of Applied Sciences. He serves as Vice Chairman of the Wireless World Research Forum working group for Services and Service Architectures and is a member of the ICT Advisory Board of the German state of Saxony-Anhalt.

Berger is a Law Professor at Germany’s University of Leipzig. And Porras is a professor in the Department of Software Development and Information Management at Finland’s Lappeenranta University of Technology.
