Codicil to a will, Elizabeth [Murray] Smith, 27 April 1771, J. M. Robbins Papers, Courtesy, Massachusetts Historical Society. After spending time visiting relatives in England and Scotland during her two-year sojourn abroad, Elizabeth [Murray] Smith made last minute changes to her will on the eve of her return trip to America. The will she had written in America before undertaking this journey did not mention her first cousins, Anne and Jean Bennet, who were also the sisters of her brother James’s first wife Barbara.
