Frequently Asked Questions
Membership
in the IRA CL/R SIG
If you are a member of The
International Reading Association (IRA), we invite you
to join the IRA CL/R SIG (Membership in IRA CL/R
SIG requires membership in the IRA).
Membership in the IRA CL/R SIG becomes effective upon
Notification
of membership status in the IRA
to the IRA CL/R SIG membership
director or
treasurer (send membership number and
expiration date) and
Payment of annual subscription for
The Dragon Lode - see below).
Members of the IRA CL/R SIG receive the highly acclaimed Dragon
Lode as one of their benefits. They are also eligible to participate
in the shared governance of the organization through voting, service
on committees and our Network, and other leadership positions.
All members of IRA, regardless of
the level of membership (basic, journal, or book club), receive the newspaper
entitled Reading Today. They also receive discounts
on the purchase of books published by IRA
and on convention and conference registration fees; they have the option
to upgrade their membership by subscribing to one or more of the IRA
journals or joining the book club, and they may join other special
interest groups. Full-time students are entitled to a discount
in IRA membership dues when their
status is verified.
Each May the IRA CL/R SIG submits to IRA
headquarters their list of members and their IRA numbers to document membership
for the current fiscal year from July 1 through June 30. The IRA CL/R
SIG identifies the month of receipt of dues so that all members receive
a full year of Dragon Lodes regardless of when they join.
See Subscription
and Membership Form.

Subscription
to The Dragon Lode (ISSN 1098-6448)
EVERYONE, whether or not a member of IRA,
is invited to subscribe to
The Dragon Lode. Because the information published
in the journal is of interest to all teachers, parents, and librarians,
the IRA CL/R SIG desires to distribute the information as widely
as possible.
Subscribers are strongly encouraged to also join the International
Reading Association to reap the additional benefits described
above and to help support the work of the organization through their dues,
but such membership is not mandatory to subscribe to The Dragon
Lode.
Individuals and libraries are encouraged to subscribe for multiple years
so they can receive a price incentive for minimizing administrative maintenance
costs. See Subscription
and Membership Form.
