Our current projects, in order of their initiation, include the following:

Program at the Annual IRA Convention
An informative program and annual business meeting (also known as the Assembly) have been held at the IRA Convention annually since 1978.

The Dragon Lode (ISSN 1098-6448)
Our refereed journal was first published as a newsletter in 1979 and became a juried journal in 1984.

Notable Books for a Global Society
This annual project identifies outstanding new preK-12 multicultural literature to promote understanding of differences among people as well as our commonalities. Our first list, of books with 1995 copyright dates, was announced in 1996.

Los Angeles’ 100 Best Books
We partner the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Library Services who annually identify 100 of the most outstanding new preK-12 children’s young adult’s literature which belongs in every library and media center. Their recommendations for a balanced library acquisition program include fiction and all areas of nonfiction represented in the Dewey Decimal library classification system. The first list (books published in 1995) was published in The Dragon Lode in 1997. This project was sanctioned as a partnership by the Board of Directors at their May meeting, 1999.

Networking
We strive to facilitate networking among all those interested in children’s literature. The idea to sponsor a Network via the WWW was approved by the Board of Directors in 1997. Our present priorities include:
• Our website
• a Network Directory
• A Children’s Literature Listserve

Library Subscription Campaign
We encourage every library and media center in the United States to subscribe to The Dragon Lode so that information about excellent children’s literature is readily available to teachers, librarians, parents, grandparents, and tutors.
