Safety Training

CNSM Safety Office asserts that the safety of each individual is of primary importance to the College and University. The CNSM Safety Office offers mandatory general safety training for all employees and students working in laboratories and specialized training in autoclave, biohazardous materials and blood-borne pathogens, ergonomics in the workplace, gas cylinder/cryogenic liquid handling, hazardous waste labeling and disposal, lasers, radioactive materials including X-rays, and scuba diving.

Research Compliance Training

CSULB, through ORSP Training and Education, uses the CITI Program to provide trainings for research with human and animal subjects, financial conflicts of interest, and Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR). Each RCR course covers the core norms, principles and rules governing the practice of responsible research.

RCR training is now part of funding requirements of both the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Science Foundation (NSF). RCR is increasingly viewed as an essential component of research training, regardless of a researcher's source of funding. There is an RCR course specifically tailored to research administrators and additional CITI courses for those serving on the Institutional Review Board (IRB), which governs research with human subjects and the Institutional Care and Use Committee (IACUC), which governs research with animal subjects.

To start your training:

  1. Visit CITI Program.
  2. Register to create an account.
  3. Select "California State University, Long Beach" as your Organization Affiliation and continue with the registration process.
  4. You can now select and complete your online courses at your leisure.
  5. Once you have completed a course, CITI will provide you with a Certificate of Completion. You are strongly encouraged to download documentation for your own records.
