Establish New Credential Process
Below is a general workflow for the establishment of a new CSULB credential. Please reach out with the initial draft of your proposal to the Vice Provost of Academic Programs and our office to loop us in.
Originator obtains approval from their department/college toward the establishment of a new credential.
Originator prepares a new credential packet, which includes:
- a credential proposal form (DOC)
- for any credential which crosses over with multiple department offerings, please fill out the Interdisciplinary Degree Information Questions (DOCX)
- Submit a Substantive Change Form (DOC - with notes) to Sharlene Sayegh.
- WSCUC review of new non-degrees is required. Read additional information on substantive change forms.
Originator submits new credential packet to the Vice Provost of Academic Programs (jody.cormack@csulb.edu) and the Office of Academic Programs (catalog@csulb.edu).
After feedback, revisions and approval, Academic Programs submits to the Academic Senate.
Reviewed Feedback/Edits Approved
Academic Senate Committees, the Curriculum and Educational Policies Committee (CEPC) and the University Resources Council (URC) review proposal. Originator and/or a department representative present their proposals.

Reviewed by CSULB Academic Senate.

Upon Academic Senate approval, a recommendation is forwarded to the Office of the Provost. Upon their approval, a recommendation is forwarded to the Office of the President.
Review Senate Council/Committee Calendars
Approved/Certified
Upon approval from the President, the new credential will be published in the following Fall's Catalog
Published in March/April, effecting the following Fall
