New Employee/Project Personnel Training

CNSM Introductory Safety Training is REQUIRED for employees and formal volunteers. Work Study students, Student Assistants, Teaching Assistants, Graduate Assistants and Foundation-paid people are all formal employees who must complete introductory safety training. This training process is also strongly recommended for any unsupervised student worker. This introductory training is to be completed before one begins working. This training mandate is set by Cal/OSHA. Failure to abide by this training requirement puts both direct supervisors and the university at risk in the event of an accident and/or lawsuit.

Introductory Safety Training consists of the following:

  • Review a safety presentation developed by CNSM Safety. This may be presented live, via a PowerPoint presentation or a combination of the two. This PowerPoint training presentation is accessible from this CNSM Safety website.
  • On the same webpage as the PowerPoint presentation is our safety quiz. Enter your personal information in the spaces provided, then take the quiz. The results of your quiz are e-mailed to you and to the CNSM Safety Office.
  • When you open your quiz-results e-mail, you will be instructed to print off a Safety Program Form. Print this form, and complete it with the help of your supervisor(s).
  • Hand carry or mail your completed Safety Program Form to CNSM Safety - Located in Microbiology Building, Room 001, within 7 days of attending the training session.

Thank you, and please call the CNSM Safety Office (Chris Frost or John de la Cuesta, x55623 from on-campus or 562-985-5623) if you have any questions.
