It is with great sadness that we announce that our former Associate Director of Bands, Dr. Joan deAlbuquerque, passed away unexpectedly earlier this month.

Known as an inspiring conductor and tireless educator, Dr. deAlbuquerque served as the Associate Director of Bands at the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music from 2003-2011 when she left to take a position at Luther College in Decatur, Iowa.

Dr. deAlbuquerque was a respected music educator and will be remembered for her never-ending energy and dedication to the students of the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music. During her time at CSULB her ensembles received may prestigious invitations and performed at many of the most respected venues in California.

In 2011 Dr. deAlbuquerque left Long Beach to accept the position of Director of Bands at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. While there, her bands performed nationally and internationally, and she was known in the profession as a respected conductor, educator, adjudicator, author, and colleague.

A rare female leader in the world of collegiate conducting, she will be missed by the many that she touched with her talent, her passion for students, her energetic approach to life, her love for music, her extraordinary smile, and a brilliant, infectious laugh that we will never forget.
