Recently appointed Principal Trumpet of the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra by James Conlon, alumnus Ryan Darke is enthusiastically moving back to Southern California, where he will also be joining the CSULB Bob Cole Conservatory of Music Brass Department.
Ryan has found success playing with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Baltimore Symphony, San Diego Symphony, Auckland Philharmonia, and Malaysia Philharmonic, among others. He is also a member of the Los Angeles-based new music ensemble wildUp, conducted by alumnus Christopher Rountree. Ryan’s experience performing with some of the world’s great conductors, including Gustavo Dudamel, Michael Tilson Thomas, Christoph Eschenbach, Lorin Maazel, Kurt Masur, Marin Alsop, and Esa Pekka Salonen, will be a tremendous resource for our students.
Ryan received his Professional Studies Certificate at The Colburn School (2011), his Master’s in Music Performance from Rice University (2010), and his Bachelor’s Degree at the California State University, Long Beach Bob Cole Conservatory of Music (2008). His most influential instructors have been Rob Frear, James Wilt, Tony Prisk, Bill VerMeulen, and Michael Sachs.
In addition to performing Ryan is an active teacher and mentor of young musicians. Ryan maintains a private studio in addition to volunteering as a teacher and mentor for students for many local organizations. He has volunteered for OrchKids through the Baltimore Symphony, Youth Orchestras of Los Angeles (YOLA) through the LA Philharmonic, and taught a masterclass in Venezuela’s "El Sistema" while touring with the LA Philharmonic
