Activity – Practice SPSS
The main goal of this activity
is to learn how to use SPSS (the most popular statistical analysis software) to
do simple statistical analysis.
Use the attached SPSS
file to find the followings. Please note you CANNOT open the file by clicking on it. You should save it on your
desktop and then use SPSS app to open the file.
1.
The
average of all students’ scores in Math, Chemistry, and Physics (using Descriptives). This will be saved in the data file so you should
submit your datafile to BeachBoard.
2.
The
correlation between the three courses. You should highlight the correlation in
the output and send the output file to BeachBoard or copy and paste the output
in a Word document.
3.
T-test to
see if there is a significant difference between boys and girls in Math,
Physics, and Chem. You should highlight the t value and the number that shows
the difference is significant or not in the output and send the output file to
BeachBoard or copy and paste the output in a Word document.
4.
Create a
new variable named GPA to calculate the average of each student’s score in the
three courses. This will be saved in the data file so you should submit your
datafile to BeachBoard.
5.
T-test to
see if there is a significant difference between girls and boys in their GPA.
You should highlight the t value and the number that shows the
difference is significant in the output and send the output file to BeachBoard
or copy and paste the output in a Word document.
6.
Submit
your data file as well as your output file to BeachBoard.
