Elliot Deutsch Works with John Clayton

Alumnus Elliot Deutsch has been working with John Clayton, writing music for the Kennedy Center Spring Gala “It Don’t Mean a Thing… A Celebration of Swing.”  The concert is on May 3rd and will feature Audra McDonald, Megan Hilty, Cheyenne Jackson, Terence Blanchard, Paquito D’Rivera, The Puppini Sisters, and Paul Taylor Dance, and is under the direction of John Clayton.

Benton-Thomas Preciado at United Negro College Masked Ball

Benton-Thomas Preciado performed at the United Negro College Fund Mayor’s Masked Ball hosted by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel.

The Ball is one of the Los Angeles’ signature fundraising gala and premier social events of the year. UNCF recognizes the extraordinary work of corporations and individual who have made significant contributions to UNCF’s work to improve the educational outcomes of African American and other minority students who deserve a quality, affordable college education.

Beth Peregrine in Performance with LAMC and LACO

Senior Beth Peregrine was one of 32 singers from the Los Angeles Master Chorale invited to perform as a part of a collaboration between Maestro Jeffrey Kahane  and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra.”Jeffrey Kahane explores the chilling mystery and score of the incomparable masterpiece Mozart wrote on his deathbed. After intermission, Kahane conducts Robert Levin’s innovative completion of this heart-wrenching work with soloists, full orchestra and the powerful Los Angeles Master Chorale.”

Justin Hageman in Performance

Horn Instructor Justin Hageman played with Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga in their post-Grammy concert at the Wiltern Theater. His recent recording projects include the upcoming movie, Run All Night, and TV shows, Family Guy, American Dad, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter.

Charlie Bostick in Jesus Christ Superstar

Alumnus Charlie Bostick toured last fall with Cornerstone Chorale and Brass on their 2015 National Tour. He is currently in Doma Theatre’s production of Jesus Christ Superstar and at the end of March he will begin his contract singing and dancing in Playlist Productions with Carnival Cruise in the Caribbean.

Honey Whiskey Trio at the Shedd

Honey Whiskey Trio (alumni Courtney Gasque, Ann Louise Thaiss, and Christina Wilson) were in residence last weekend at the John G. Shedd Institute for the Arts in Eugene, Oregon. They gave masterclasses, workshops for the community, and an evening concert.

The Folk Alliance Region West: North American Western Region of Folk Alliance tweeted, “@HWTMusic at @TheShedd tonight was totally #AWESOME! if they come to your town, don’t even think about it/you don’t want to miss them.”

Liz Gutierrez in Orchestra Santa Monica Woodwind Quintet

Alumna Liz Gutierrez (bassoon) performed at the Miles Playhouse in Santa Monica with the Orchestra Santa Monica Woodwind Quintet last weekend. The OSM Woodwind Quintet is a cornerstone in Orchestra Santa Monica’s educational and community outreach. A large portion of the quintet’s focus is to provide live music programs to schools, local churches, and neighborhood organizations. The quintet often performs in Title I schools, whose students have little access to live concert music.

Mindi Ehrlich in Into the Woods

Alumnus Mindi Ehrlich has been cast as Rapunzel in Into the Woods with the Center Stage Opera (CA). The run is in February at the Madrid Theatre https://centerstageopera.org/

She will also appear in in Pacific Opera Project’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Mozart), set it in space… the final frontier. Klingons, slave girls, and all your favorite characters from the original Star Trek series sing and dance their way through “Abduction” with a 27-piece orchestra and a new English libretto by artistic director Josh Shaw. Performances are March 6-8.
