Women’s History Month Documentary Screening

The Department of History along with the Women’s and Gender Equity Center at CSULB will be hosting its annual Women’s History Month event on Tuesday, March 14. The event will take place from 7-9 p.m. at the University Student Union Beach Auditorium and is titled: Votes for Women: Suffrage and Activism, with a free screening of two documentaries by Inez Milholland called “Forward into Light” and “California Women Win the Vote”.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with:

  • Zoe Nicholson (producer)
  • Sarah Schrank (CSULB history professor)
  • Phyllis O’Connor (League of Women Voters of Long Beach Area)
  • Brianna Nelloms (CSULB history master’s student)

Participants will learn about the history of the Suffrage movement and how that applies today in taking political action.

Representatives from the League of Women Voters will be there to assist students to register to vote.

Food and refreshments will be provided by CSULB’s Department of History and the Women’s Gender Equity Center. The event is sponsored by CSULB’s Department of History, and Women’s and Gender Equity Center, and co-sponsored by the ASI Government, Secretary of Women’s Affairs.
