Chuhee Kwon, Physics and Astronomy, was named by the American Physical Society (APS) as “Woman Physicist of the Month” in December after her nomination by CSULB physics chair Bill Andreas and faculty member Prashanth Jaikumar. This program of APS’s Committee on the Status of Women in Physics is meant to highlight exceptional women physicists who have positively impacted others’ lives and careers.

Paulino Kim, Asian and Asian-American Studies, was recognized in December by Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, as one of 23 distinguished overseas Filipinos from 11 countries as part to the Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas (PAFIOO). Founded in 1991, the Presidential Awards represent a biennial search for overseas-based individuals and organizations which have dedicated their work in the service of Filipinos. Kim is an acclaimed California novelist whose fictions and literary works offer constructive criticisms of the political, social and religious ills and situations in the Philippines.

Paul Boyd-Batstone, Teacher Education, hosted two webinars recentlym sponsored by the Organization of American States and the International Teacher Education Network. The purpose of the webinars was to provide professional development to teachers in member countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
