2016 Holiday Art Sale

Published: November 14, 2016

CSULB’s School of Art is celebrating the work of its faculty and students with its 49th annual Holiday Art Sale in December.

From Sunday-Thursday, Dec. 4-8, students and faculty of this nationally recognized visual arts program invite the campus and community to take home unique items from promising young artists just in time for Christmas.

The sale, organized by the Ceramic Arts Club, features wares made by students and faculty from a wide variety of programs offered by the School of Arts. The ceramics sale will include everything from functional pottery to decorative items to sculpture, while the other programs will exhibit everything from fiber arts to jewelry. Prices for individual pieces are expected to range from $25 to $500, so there truly is something for everyone, no matter what their budget.

Sale hours are from 4-7 p.m. on Dec. 4, and noon-5 p.m. from Dec. 5-8., with hours being extended until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6. Historically, patrons begin lining up two to three hours prior to the opening of the sale in order to ensure the best selection. Cash, check and Visa are accepted forms of payment.

Chris Miles, a professor in the School of Arts and program head for ceramics, cited the importance of the holiday sale to the school.

“In addition to being one of our club’s main fundraisers, it’s also an annual tradition of connection between our program and club, and the broader campus and community,” said Miles. “The proceeds go to educational purposes including travel, supplies and educational materials.”

The sale is not only a way to help the department nurture the talent of new artists, but also for collectors to get their hands on pieces made by future stars.

“It’s an opportunity to acquire quality, one-of-a-kind handmade items and know that you get to take home something great while also directly supporting the higher aspirations of our students,” said Miles. “You’re getting and giving all at once.”

The Holiday Art Sale takes place in the department galleries and courtyard, located in between the Fine Arts 2 and Fine Arts 3 buildings on the southeastern section of the campus. Parking for the sale is available in Lot 8, off East University Drive. From the parking lots, patrons are asked to follow the directional signs leading to the sale.
