CSU Mascots In Sacramento

CSULB mascot Prospector Pete recently joined the other mascots from across the California State University system at the state capitol in Sacramento to participate in a system-wide advocacy day. The mascots and staff members from the campuses met with policymakers and staffers to ask them to #StandwithCSU during the latest round of budget advocacy discussions.

The CSU is requesting an additional $101 million from the Legislature, of which $50 million would be used for strategic campus efforts to increase graduation rates and decrease time to degree. Systemwide, graduation rates have increased by 19 percent since 2009. At CSULB, graduation rates have reached an all-time high and more than 10,000 students earned their degrees this past May during commencement–the highest total ever.

The number of minority students earning degrees at CSULB is also increasing. The university has been one of the most successful four-year public institutions at reducing opportunity gaps–the difference in graduation rates between typically underrepresented students and the rest of the university–according to a 2016 report by the Education Trust. Additional increases are expected to continue.
