Language Tutoring

The Language Center is happy to provide free language tutoring to students enrolled in language classes on campus. Tutoring, conversation practice, and other language related support is available for ASL, Chinese, Filipino, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Spanish.

Individual & Group Learning

The Center strives to be a welcoming space to practice listening and speaking your new language. You can practice with classmates, other students studying your target language, native speakers, or our language tutors. While the Center is not able to provide quite study areas we do have many areas available for small group discussion and collaborative learning. Your campus group is also welcome to reserve one of our lab spaces for meetings or activities.

Collaborative Classroom Space

The Language Center has several spaces designed for collaborative teaching and learning. Room 305 is a computer lab and discussion space containing 24 student computing stations. Room 306 is a flexible space partitioned by a sliding wall providing workspaces accommodating 20-44 students. The small group discussion area in Room 306C can be reserved for group discussion, oral practice, or as an open interview space. The video conferencing space in Room 316 seats up to 12 people. It is ideal for video conferencing, discussion groups, small classes and student clubs

Study Abroad

Use the language skills you have worked so hard to obtain--travel abroad! Ask us about destinations and opportunities for travel and study abroad. We can help you connect with other CSU and campus resources.

All students are welcome to use the Language Center anytime, however priority will be given to students enrolled in foreign language courses.

Foreign Language Tutoring

The Language Center is happy to provide free language tutoring. Meet some of our language tutors:

Hello, everyone. My name is Huiyin Luo and I am a Chinese & Korean tutor in the Language Lab at CSULB. My background is Chinese Korean, which means that I was born in China, and grew up there, but am ethnically Korean. Therefore, both Korean and Chinese are my native languages. Currently, I am a graduate student at CSULB completing my M.A. degree in Chinese Studies with an emphasis in pedagogy. I am very excited to help anyone who has problems and questions regarding the Chinese & Korean languages. Please feel free to visit me during my tutoring hours. See you in the Language Lab!

¡Hola! Salut ! My name is Natalie Nutman and I am a Spanish and French tutor at the language lab. I am a second-year MA student in the Spanish program at CSULB, and I also obtained my BA in Spanish here in 2017. Language study has profoundly broadened my perspective and transformed the way I view the world. Come see me if you want to chat about anything to do with Spanish and French studies!

こんにちは。This is Akane Suzuki and I was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. Currently I am earning my M.A. degree in Asian and Asian American Studies with emphasis in Japanese Language and Pedagogy. I look forward to meeting with you and helping you achieve your academic goals!

Tutoring, conversation practice, and other language related support is available for ASL, Chinese, Filipino, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Spanish.
