Dear Prospective Students and Families,

Over 20 years ago then President Robert Maxson established the Presidentís Scholarships as the most prestigious scholarships on the Long Beach State University campus. His intent was to attract the best and brightest students to The Beach. He succeeded. Last year, the University had over 84,000 applications to its undergraduate programs from first year and transfer hopefuls. Many of these applications represent students with exceptional academic talent.

The Presidentís Scholars receive financial support to attend Long Beach State University and much more. Presidentís Scholars are enrolled in the University Honors Program and have priority registration, small classes, faculty mentors, opportunities for international educational travel and local civic engagement, internship support, summer research assistantships, and a close connection to other academically talented students.

Scholar alums have gone on to exceptional careers and leadership positions. They often say, ďOnce a scholar; always a scholar,Ē as a reminder of the key role being a Presidentís Scholar played in constructing their futures.

The Beach is a large university, but the Scholars enjoy a small and nurturing community of like-minded students and gifted faculty and staff.

Invitations to apply for Presidentís Scholarships are extended each year to exceptional academically talented students. If you are invited to apply to receive a Presidentís scholarship, embrace the opportunity. You will be choosing a transformational path.
