Service Learning Database Registration: S4 @ The Beach

Registering For A Service Learning Project

S4 @ The Beach is the CSU's online data management system that supports CSULB's community engagement efforts. If you are enrolled in a service learning class, you will utilize S4 @ The Beach to document your service learning activities. Once you log in, you will be able to view those community organizations that have been approved by your professor for the course. Please refer to your class syllabus or contact your professor for course-specific expectations.

Step 1: Log into S4 @ The Beach

You will be able to log into the database in the same manner that you log into MyCSULB or BeachBoard, using your campus ID and password. If you just added the class, you may not find it in the database. Please check back in a few days as the database is updated every Monday and Wednesday. Log in at

Step 2: Browse the approved program sites

There will be a limited number of organizations from which you may choose. These have been chosen by your professor in consultation with the CCE and the community organization. Please use the "Browse" button to review your options.

Step 3: Contact your preferred program site

Do NOT "place" yourself with a program site until you have contacted the site and received confirmation that they will be able to accept you. Organizations' needs may change, or other students may have already filled all their open positions. Once they have confirmed, you may "place" yourself with that agency in S4 @ The Beach. Be sure to get the name and e-mail address of the person who will be your site supervisor.

Step 4: Submit Learning Plan and Participation Guidelines and read the Student Handbook

In order to complete your placement, you will need to download and read the Student Handbook and complete the online Learning Plan and Participation Guidelines. Be sure that you enter the correct e-mail for your site supervisor!

If you run into any problems logging in, please contact the Center for Community Engagement at 562-985-7131 or e-mail us at
