Possible Collaboration Tools

  • Clickers use radio frequencies via hand-held remote control devices that each student has in the classroom. They allow for active participation during a lecture as students answer questions via the buttons on their hand-held device.
  • Second Life is a virtual world which is accessible via the Internet, allowing users, called "residents", to interact with each other through avatars. Residents can explore the virtual world, meet other residents, socialize, participate in individual and group activities, and create and trade virtual property and services with one another.
  • Blogs are websites where entries are made in journal style and displayed in a reverse chronological order. A blog can encourage in-depth and extended writing and reflection than email or discussion boards.
  • Wikis (definition of wikis) and Wikipediaencourage democratic use of the Web and promote content composition by nontechnical users. As a result, the tool can be utilized by students to become the "experts" as they format and generate a wiki on a classroom-based topic.
