National Trumpet Competition 2013 Video
The BCCM Trumpet Ensemble won third place at the 2013 National Trumpet Competition in Fairfax, Virginia. More than 120 collegiate ensembles submitted videos to be among the 30 groups invited to the semi-finals. The live webcast of the finals featured six ensembles from Baylor University, CSULB, Ithaca College, Northwestern and Oklahoma State.
Tony Belletti, Devin Henderson, Esther Hood, Casey Martin, Jackson Niebrugge, Drew Ninmer, and Kurt Peregrine gave an extraordinary performance under pressure; they were flawless, exciting, rock-solid, and represented the University with aplomb.
Rob Frear, Director of Brass Studies, coached the ensemble. "Their training and professionalism was apparent throughout the weekend both in their level of performance and their wonderful demeanor. The piece they played, The Moffett-Klein Phenomenon, is a tour-de-force among trumpet ensemble compositions, and in my opinion was by far the hardest piece presented this year. Casey Martin played the treacherous solo part with apparent ease."
The National Trumpet Competition is in its 22nd year. Past winners are members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony, the Atlanta Symphony, the Pittsburgh Symphony, the United States Army Band "Pershing's Own" and the West Point Band. In 2014 the competition will move from its present venue at George Mason University to the new Calvin and Janet High Center for the Performing Arts at Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, PA.
