The Bob Cole Conservatory Chamber Choir, directed by CSULB Professor and Director of Choral Studies Dr. Jonathan Talberg, joined the University Singers from CSUF and the Chamber Singers from Riverside City College in a performance conducted by Eric Whitacre at the TED Conference on Friday, March 1, 2013.
Audience members included such luminaries as former Vice-President Al Gore, Actresses Goldie Hawn and Cameron Diaz, and entrepreneur Elon Musk. This first of its kind collaboration between live choir and satellite choir follows Whitacre's 'virtual choir' videos---seen by more than 4 million people around the world. Stephen Salts, graduate choral assistant, prepared the ensemble for this performance of Mr. Whitacre's Cloudburst.
Bob Cole Conservatory students Beth Wightwick and Jake Tickner were selected by Whitacre himself as the soprano and baritone soloist, respectively.
Skype, who worked with TED2013 to ensure that Eric Whitacre's Virtual Choir had "invisible technology," posted a behind-the-scenes video.
In addition to clips from performers across the globe, it gives us a glimpse into a rehearsal in DRH and the auditions for the soprano solo.
