Recital Information
Junior and Senior Recital
Junior Recital
Satisfactory completion of MUS 323, Junior Recital, is a requirement in the performance option. Each student approved for a junior recital should register for MUS 323 during the semester in which the recital will be completed. Junior recital approval must be attempted in the first jury after passing the UDSE.
Senior Recital
MUS 423A, Senior Recital is a prerequisite to graduation for all B.M. music majors (Music Composition majors must complete MUS 423B). Each student approved for a senior recital should register for the course during the semester in which the recital will be completed. For specific information on senior projects see your Area Director. Senior recital approval should be attempted in the 8th semester of study and no later than the 9th (native Freshmen) or 5th semester of study for transfer students.
Requirements
Junior or Senior Recitals contain repertoire that requires 45 minutes of actual playing time. The total length of the event must not exceed one hour and 15 minutes (including intermission). Students who wish to be granted exception from these limits must receive permission from the area director and recital committee at the recital approval jury. Your private instructor must inform the area coordinator and the recital jury committee in writing of this request. The recital jury committee will judge the motive and the musical value of the request and will rule accordingly. The written exception memo will be attached to the recital request form and become a part of the student’s permanent record.
Recital Dates
Recital dates are chosen by lottery. Seniors are given first priority. Seniors and Juniors will have an informational meeting during the first few weeks of the semester in which they will give their recital. Recitals may be scheduled in DRH, A301, A311, or C100. Receptions are usually held in the DRH Lobby, C200, or A307.
