**Music Education students who wish to make an "on-campus" appointment with Dr. Tamara Thies should visit the Music Education page for available advising dates.
Beach Connect Advising Appointments
All Undergraduate Music Majors must make academic advising appointments through Beach Connect. All students should meet with Kirsten Sumpter. **All Spring 2021 advising appointments will be held via Zoom.**
Schedule Your Advising Appointment
Follow the steps below, or download .pdf instructions with images
- Login to Single Sign-On with your Student ID and password:

- Click on the Beach Connect icon in your dashboard
- Click the blue "Get Assistance" botton on the right
- Select "Academic Advising" for your appointment type
- Select "Advising Center" (not faculty major advisor) for advising type
- Pick a service for your appointment such as "class schedule assistance" or "degree progress and planning"
- Select "Music & Dance" as the location
- From here, you’ll see Kirsten’s availability and have the option to view drop-in times. It will only show Kirsten’s availability that doesn’t conflict with your synchronously scheduled classes

Scheduled Comprehensive Advising Appointments
Twenty-minute advising appointments can be booked up to two weeks in advance by logging into Beach Connect on Single Sign-On (see instructions above). Beach Connect will only display advising availability that does not conflict with your class schedule.
Comprehensive Advising Appointments are appropriate for:
- Schedule and graduation planning
- Comprehensive GE & major advising
- Probation, Disqualification, and Reinstatement
- Timely Graduation Appeals
- Adding a Minor
- Any other advising concerns/questions
Freshman and Transfer Mandatory Advising
All Freshmen who started in Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 Transfers will have required advising in March/April. We will cover your degree requirements and schedule. Please do not schedule individual appointments until you have attended your advising workshop.
Drop-in Advising
Drop-in advising hours, if available, will be posted on Beach Connect. Students will wait in a Zoom waiting room until it is your turn for a brief advising session.
Drop-In advising is appropriate for:
- Quick Questions
- Spring 2021 Graduation Checks
Drop-In advising is NOT appropriate for:
- Schedule planning
- Timely Graduation Appeals
- Comprehensive GE & major advising
Music Minor
In order to declare a minor in Music:
- You must have a minimum 2.5 GPA (Overall, CSULB, and Major)
- You must be fully declared in your major (no pre-majors)
- You must be able to complete the minor within the University’s Timely Graduation Policy
- You are encouraged to complete or be enrolled in at least one course in the minor before declaring
- You must complete your first term at CSULB with a minimum 2.5 GPA prior to requesting a minor
