Music Education + Jazz Methods
Justin Padilla is a locally respected saxophonist, clinician, and music educator. He has made teaching instrumental music his life’s work. He holds a B.M. in both Music Education and Saxophone Performance and graduate studies in Instrumental Conducting from California State University, Long Beach. For the past seventeen years Justin has transformed music programs throughout Orange County and Long Beach into thriving, positive, classroom environments.
Among his career accomplishments, Mr. Padilla was invited to speak at the 2005 California Music Educators Association State Convention, was a guest Jazz Education presenter at the 2009 SCSBOA Fall conference, and frequently mentors music education majors en route to their teaching credential. In 2011 he was recognized as a Seal Beach Lions Club Harry J. Aslan Teacher of the Year, was named the 2015 Los Alamitos Unified School District Teacher of the Year, and the 2015 Orange County Music and Arts and Administrators Secondary Instrumental Music teacher of the year.
Recently, Justin was the guest conductor for the 2019 High Desert Junior High Honor Band and the California All State Middle School Jazz Band for the CASMEC state music education convention in San Jose in 2016. He has served on the board for the Southern California School Band & Orchestra Association as Vice President of Jazz Education for two terms and the California Alliance for Jazz as the Middle School Representative.
As an avid life-long learner, Justin studies Gracie Jiu Jitsu under the Gracie family at the World Headquarters in Torrance, California. He has adapted their world-class teaching techniques to improve his ability to instruct musicians of all ages.
Justin is currently the Jazz & Orchestra Director at Los Alamitos High School in Los Alamitos, CA.
