The Graduate Application Process
There are two different degree streams, the Master of Music and Master of Arts, with unique application requirements. If you are applying for a degree in Composition, Instrumental/Vocal Performance, Instrumental/Choral Conducting, Opera, or Jazz Studies, you are a Master of Music applicant. If you are applying for a degree in Music History, you are a Master of Arts applicant.
- **All application materials are due by October 1 for Spring Admissions**; this includes pre-screening materials, if required (see below).
- **All application materials are due by January 15 for Fall Admissions**; this includes pre-screening materials, if required (see below).

The Application Process—Master of Music
The following steps will guide you through the graduate admissions process.
- Review application process to the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University Long Beach using our Graduate Admissions Page
- Submit Supplementary Materials to CalStateApply:
- Pre-screening link to Audition Materials if you are applying to: Keyboard Studies, Jazz Studies, Choral Studies, Voice/Opera, or Percussion Studies
- Link to composition portfolio if you are applying to Composition
- A Statement of Purpose in which you indicate your interests in graduate studies, the concentration you are applying to and your voice/instrument.
- Professional Résumé
- Three Letters of Recommendation
- Official Transcripts from your bachelor’s degree-conferring institution.
- If you took music coursework at another institution, you should submit unofficial transcripts from this institution or if there were multiple, all of the institutions.

The Application Process—Master of Arts
The following steps will guide you through the graduate admissions process to apply to our Master of Arts with a concentration in Musicology degree program.
**Please note that M.A. with a concentration in Music Education is on hiatus for 2022.
- Apply to California State University Long Beach, using our Graduate Admissions Page
- Submit Supplementary Materials via your CalStateApply application:
- A Statement of Purpose in which you indicate your interests in graduate studies in musicology
- Three writing samples that exhibit research
- Professional Résumé
- Official Transcripts from your bachelor’s degree-conferring institution.
- If you took music coursework at another institution, you should submit unofficial transcripts from this institution or if there were multiple, all of the institutions.

Supplementary Materials Submission
Electronic Submission
At this time, the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music does not have a way to centrally process electronic submission of supplemental materials. If you wish to submit your materials electronically, you will need to send them as an attachment to moni.simeonov@csulb.edu.
Letters of recommendation, if emailed, must come from the recommender’s email address. Recommenders are welcome to submit letters of recommendation as an email attachment to moni.simeonov@csulb.edu.
For prescreening applications, send a link to your materials, wherever you hold them (Google docs, Vimeo, etc.) to moni.simeonov@csulb.edu.
**NOTE: Your name MUST be in the subject line of your email and uploaded files. If a document does NOT contain your name, it will be deleted**

Conventional Mail Submission
You may submit your materials via conventional mail instead. Letters of recommendation, if included by the applicant, must be in a sealed envelope or mailed directly from the recommender to:
