Liz Gutierrez began her bassoon studies at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts where she studied bassoon with Dr. Carolyn Beck, participated in masterclasses with internationally acclaimed musicians, formed the Linnaea Quintet, and played principal bassoon in many of Los Angeles’ fine youth orchestras.

She continued her bassoon studies at the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at CSULB where she studied with Michelle Grego, played principal bassoon in all ensembles, and met her colleagues who would form the Quintessential Winds, who are now in their 10th season. With the Quintessential Winds she won the Beverly Hills Audition two years in a row; they were semi-finalists in the Plowman Chamber Music Competition in Columbus, Missouri, performed at the North American Saxophone Alliance, and participated in the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival where she was principal bassoonist in the symphony orchestra.

A busy freelancer, Ms. Gutierrez plays or subs with the Orchestra Santa Monica, Golden State Pops, Bellflower Symphony, South-East Symphony, the Intimate Opera Company, and many others. In addition to freelancing, she has been a bassoon instructor for over ten years. She was the bassoon instructor at Wildwood Institute of Music and Arts for 4 years, and she is the bassoon instructor for Arcadia High School. Eight of her private students have been accepted to LACHSA where her own studies began and have gone off to complete their studies at music schools across the country.
