All undergraduate music majors are required to pass an Upper Division Screening Examination (UDSE) before advancement to upper division applied study. Specific information and requirements regarding the UDSE are organized by area below. Further questions should be directed to your area director.
When to take the Exam
- First-Time-First-Year students must attempt the UDSE in the fourth semester jury
- Transfer students must attempt the UDSE in the second semester jury
Conditions
Students should prepare to pass the UDSE with a "C" or better in their first attempt. If a student receives a grade lower than a "C" in their first attempt, one additional attempt is permitted. If a "C" or better is not achieved after two attempts, the student is removed from the major.
