Ted Sugata is Second Oboe of the Pacific Symphony and oboe faculty at CSU Long Beach, Chapman University, Azusa Pacific University, and Long Beach City College. His students have achieved remarkable success, with placements including Principal Oboe of the LA Philharmonic and programs at Juilliard, Colburn, and USC.
An active studio musician, Dr. Sugata has recorded over 50 film scores with composers including John Williams, Randy Newman, and James Newton Howard, and has collaborated with artists such as Anne-Sophie Mutter and Imagine Dragons. He is passionate about inclusive music education, serving as Teaching Artist for Pacific Symphony’s Class Act program and championing underrepresented composers through his solo and chamber performances.
Dr. Sugata holds a DMA from USC, MM from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and a BM from the Manhattan School of Music, studying with Joel Timm, John Mack, and Joseph Robinson.
