Phillip Triggs

Phillip Triggs can be heard playing his viola as far north as Santa Barbara County where he is assistant principal viola of the Santa Barbara Symphony, in Ventura County as principal viola of the New West Symphony, in Los Angeles County as a section member of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, and in Orange County where he is a section member of the Pacific Symphony. He is also active in the recording studios of Hollywood, having recorded for film, television, streaming, and video games. Some notable credits include Oppenheimer, Raya and the Last Dragon, American Dad, Black Adam, and The Mandalorian.
A dedicated and sought-after teacher, Triggs is on faculty at California State University Long Beach, Chapman University, Santa Ana College, and the Orange County School of the Arts. Mr. Triggs’ students have gone on to prestigious music schools and festivals all across the country and around the world.
Phillip received his master’s degree at Northwestern University where he studied with Roland Vamos and his bachelor’s degree at Chapman University where he studied with Robert Becker. He spent several summers at the Aspen Music Festival where he studied with Jeffrey Irvine and James Dunham.
Triggs currently lives in Orange County with his wife and two children. When he’s not playing his oddly-shaped Otto Erdesz viola and his reliable Hill bow, Triggs can be found smoking meat in his backyard, capturing photos of life with his mirrorless camera, or listening to music with his planar magnetic headphones.
