My name is Ted Atkatz and I’m in my twelfth year as Director of Percussion Studies at BCCM. I’m proud to say that we have a vibrant percussion program that gives students comprehensive training on concert percussion and beyond.
Our faculty are all involved in the Los Angeles music scene, playing on recording sessions for film, television and albums, performing in orchestras including the Los Angles Philharmonic and Pacific Symphony Orchestras and performing in chamber settings involving percussion. Our students have benefited from the knowledge of our faculty, as many graduates have gone on to have professional careers as musicians.

Bachelor of Music, Option in Performance—Concentration in Percussion
The purpose for the Percussion Program is to provide students with quality instruction on a variety of instruments in a variety of styles. Students study each instrument with a specialist, thereby receiving great depth in each area. The faculty are also professional performers, some of whom are considered to be among the top performers/teachers in their particular expertise.
The students have the opportunity to study many different instruments in a variety of music styles (both Western and Non Western), ensuring they become a well-rounded and versatile percussionist. The students also have the opportunity to specialize in an area of their choice.
The ideal percussion graduate should have the ability to perform on a competent level in a variety of musical settings, perform on a mallet instrument, and have the knowledge to teach in a variety of situations.
The ensembles cover many styles including classical, jazz, contemporary, and world music such as African, Brazilian, and Caribbean.
