Orchestras at the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music

The Orchestral Studies Division provides many opportunities for our string, wind, brass and percussion students to take part.

Bob Cole Conservatory Symphony

  • BCCM’s Flagship ensemble with the most number of performances
  • Recognized as one of the finest university ensembles in Southern California
  • Wide and varied repertoire, ranging from the Baroque to the 21st Century
  • Seven to eight concert cycles per academic year including opera and large-scale collaborations with jazz, dance, film, choral studies and opera
  • All presented in the modern Carpenter Performing Arts Center
  • Annual student concerto competition
  • Regular international tours, for example Europe and Korea

Beach Orchestra

  • Major and non-majors
  • One rehearsal per week
  • Lighter repertoire to be enjoyed by campus community

Chamber Orchestra

  • Formed by audition from the Symphony Orchestra
  • Specializes in smaller ensemble repertoire and playing for the Opera Institute
  • Occasional tours

Collegium Musicum

  • Focuses on repertoire from the Renaissance, Baroque and Classical area
  • Collaborations with Faculty and Student soloists as well as BCCM vocalists

Almost all performances are held at the 1200-seat Carpenter Performing Arts Center adjacent to the Bob Cole Conservatory. Frequent run-out concerts to Art High Schools in Southern California help to promote our orchestra’s quality and bring students to Long Beach.
