John Hannan taught instrumental music for 36 years (30 of them at Mission Viejo High School) and was a freelance musician in and around Orange County for many of those years. He is the founder and past conductor of the nationally recognized Americus Brass Band and worked as a historical music consultant and technical advisor on notable film projects such as North and South: Parts l and II, The Alamo, Once Upon a Texas Train, Glory, and Gettysburg.

Mr. Hannan also is the founder of the Marching Band Association of Southern California and one of the co-founders of the WBA (Western Band Association), where he currently serves as a Music Judge. He received his B.A. in Music from California State University, Long Beach.
