The NCLR/CSULB Center for Latino Community’s numerous research projects strive to eliminate disparities in health outcomes and provide access to quality health care, facilitate empowerment of youth through a variety of training and mentorship programs, and improve the cultural relevance and representation of Latino communities. Our Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) projects are extensive, while our overarching research efforts and results continue to provide national leadership in the field.

    The goal of the CSULB HSI STEM program is to increase the number of Latino students attaining highly valued degrees in the fields of science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.

    Graduate Mentor Fellows are trained to support first generation college-educated Latino undergraduate students to enhance readiness for graduate or professional-level degrees.

    The program’s goal is to forge a lasting university-CBO partnership designed to build capacity both on the CSULB campus and within the Long Beach community to deliver effective integrated HIV/HCV/alcohol and substance use interventions targeting Latino young adults (18-24 years old).

    The program’s goal is to enhance graduate student preparedness to envision, design, implement, and evaluate health-related, community-based, participatory research and interventions to address childhood obesity.

  • RIMI

    The RIMI Project is a CSULB-wide effort to involve faculty and students in minority health and health disparities research through support of pilot research projects, seminars, trainings, graduate student employment, and a health disparities research course.

    This course, linking Latino health and culture in the contemporary Yucatán Peninsula, is a unique opportunity to learn about factors affecting health and cultural expression in Mayan communities.
