Back in Time to 1967:

  • Time Magazine’s Man of the Year: Lyndon B. Johnson.
  • Rolling Stone began publication. The first issue sold about 5,000 copies.
  • The first ATM was invented in London.
  • The first handheld calculator was invented by Texas Instruments.
  • These years use the same calendars: 2017, 2006, 1995, 1989, 1978, 1967, 1961, 1950, 1939, 1933, and 1922.
  • The United States and Russia signed a treaty, agreeing not to nuke the moon.
  • Ernesto “Che” Guevara died.
  • Green Bay Packers won Super Bowl I vs. the Kansas City Chiefs.
  • Jimi Hendrix burned his guitar for the first time during a European tour.
  • Philadelphia 76ers win the NBA championship against the San Francisco Warriors.
  • The largest Emerald, the 'Gachala Emerald' was found in Colombia. It weighs in at 858 carats.
  • Having been tested in a few outlets, 7-11's Slurpees became available in all locations.

“Long Beach State” as it was known in 1950, when I
transferred from Santa Ana College to begin my final 2 years of college, had nothing more than an apartment house for a campus, with the bedrooms as classrooms. The second year(51-52), classrooms were in quonset huts.

All students at that time were “Commuter” students. Actually, we felt like true 49′ers in the sense that we were pioneers!

My major was Social Science, with a minor in
