RIMI Health Equity Seminar: Dr. Sally Stevens - Intergenerational Trauma

Barrett Athletic Administration Center

The CSULB RIMI Project and Center for Health Equity Research is pleased to bring Dr. Sally Stevens to the Cal State Long Beach campus. Dr. Stevens will present data from 226 substance using adult women enrolled in a sexual health education project between 2008 and 2013. Participants included women who had at least one child under the age of 18 years. Demographic, substance use, and traumatic loss data with regard to mothering will be presented - highlighting differences across race/ethnic groups. The link between historical and intergenerational trauma and substance abuse will be illuminated along with social policies that perpetuate such traumatic experiences. Recommendations for effectively intervening at the individual, family and policy levels will also be discussed.
