Students would work on a set of multiethnic cohorts primarily designed to examine incidence of vision loss, blindness and eye disease in a population-based sample of adults 40 years of age and older. Our sample includes primarily Latino, Chinese, and African-American or Black adults from Los Angeles County. We examine patterns of incident eye disease and progression of eye disease and how these changes are influenced by lifestyle, genetic, biologic and ocular risk factors. We are interested in how these factors vary by age, gender, and race ethnicity and the impact of visual impairment or blindness on health related quality of life.
