Amber Johnson, PhD, MPH
I am currently completing a secondary analysis of data from both the National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey (NHANES) and the Jackson Heart Study (JHS). In my NHANES analysis, I am examining racial differences in cardiovascular risk. In JHS data I am examining the relationship between racism and cardiovascular risk in an African American sample. Build Scholars would assist me with analyzing data while learning complex analysis such as Latent Profile Analysis and Multinomial Regression. Scholars will also assist with scientific writing for manuscript development in which they will work toward receiving authorship on completed manuscripts. I am also developing a feasibility study to examine the utility of a screening for social needs program in Long Beach for a healthcare facility in Long Beach. Though this is the beginning stages, the Build Scholar will be able to assist with program development. In addition, the scholar will learn the value of community engagement, particularly in the area of addressing the social needs.
