Congratulations to CHER Intern Tino Rivera!

Congratulations to graduating CHER intern Tino Rivera on his acceptance into an exciting Masters in Nursing program! Here in his own words, Tino describes what this journey has meant to him:

I am a first generation Mexican-American who was fortunate enough to beat the odds. I grew up in an underserved community where violence and drugs were common. I was the first person in my family to go to college, which put that much pressure on my need to succeed. Making my parents proud was and continues to be the root of my hunger to thrive. My first and only goal was to finish an undergraduate degree, but I did not expect to meet such good classmates and professors who would push me and give me the tools to expect more from myself.

That being said, being accepted to the University of San Francisco for an Entry-level Master’s in Nursing could not have happened without the help of my parents,  friends, and professors I met during my undergraduate years. The support that everyone around me has given me has been immense and I will use that support to fuel me whenever I feel like giving up. With all this support, giving up is not an option. Knowing that going to grad school will allow me to gain knowledge and skills to help low-income communities makes me that much more excited to start this new chapter of my life.
