William Houston merges modern vernaculars, including minimalism, ambient, rock and jazz into live-performance "classical" structures, presented with computer generated projections. The result is intended to be both of the moment, and to transcend the moment. The Los Angeles Times has called his work "multifaceted" and "philosophically provocative."

William Houston has written five operas including The XTC of Saint Teresa, an opera about sex, religion, spirituality and performance art, commissioned by the Pacific Symphony and performed at the Newport Harbor Art Museum and Japan America Theater. D.O.M.E.S., a post-modern new music and theatre group, has performed Mr. Houston's concert operas at Southern California clubs and galleries. More recently The William Houston Ensemble performed his Alternative classicisms at Luna Park, Lumpy Gravy in Hollywood and The Orange County Center for Contemporary Art.
