Vicki Ray, pianist, performs widely as a soloist and collaborative artist. She is a member of the California E.A.R. Unit and Xtet. Her playing as been hailed for "displaying that kind of musical thoroughness and technical panache that puts a composer's thought directly before the listener." A champion of new music, she has had works written for her by numerous composers including John Adams, Paul Dresher, Kamran Ince, Shaun Naidoo, Stephen Hartke and others. She is the head of the piano department at the California Institute of the Arts where she has been a faculty member since 1991. Her first solo recording "from the left edge" can be found on the CRI label.
