Born in Seoul into the most prominent theatre family in Korea, Byungkoo Ahn is a young theatre artist who has just started a professional opera directing career in the United States. He received his MFA in theatre from UCLA. Serving as a stage director of the opera program at CSULB, he directed LaCalisto, Dido & Aeneas, and Impresario. His opera directing credits also include Amahl and the Night Visitors and The Telephone.His most recent original experimental plays integrating lieder, movement and electronic multimedia will be directed by himself at La MaMa in New York City this fall. Being a member of La MaMa Umbria International since 1995, he has appeared in several musical and opera productions in Italy as a singer actor.
