Analysis of written comments:
This class can be intimidating, and that is one of the reasons I have made my homework policy extremely liberal.  The homework in this course consists of experiments that can be done at home, and as such I am willing to do almost anything to see that my students do these exercises.  This class appropriately emphasizes experimental physical science, and even though it can get to be a logistical chore late in the semester to regrade experimental work from the beginning of the semester, I am willing to make that extra effort if it will help students to complete these exercises.

Additionally, while there are still a few comments regarding the pace of the class, it appears that placing a significant portion of the class notes on the web has alleviated many of the "pacing" concerns of the students.

Comments made during standard class evaluations:
1. The class was well organized, and the web content was helpful.
2. I liked the idea of re-doing the experiments for full credit.  It helped a lot.
3. I feel he was very hard to follow and he was helpful, but still very hard to understand his notes and materials.
4. This teacher was a great teacher! :) I liked how you could redo your THEx's and how there is extra-credit for each test.  Because some of these concepts are hard to grasp at first, the extra-credit really helped to boost your grade up ... and they are all do-able and very fair.  Most teachers don't offer extra credit or even have a concern for their students.  Thank you for taking the time to explain and answer all of my questions.
5. Professor conducted the class in an organized fashion and was very helpful to the students.
6. Professor Pickett is a very through teacher.  He was organized and prepared.  I like the idea of grade/ regrade and also being able to turn in assignments in late and still get full credit.  Sometimes life is overwhelming and this class even though it had a lot of work involved, was still enjoyable.
7. I really felt that Professor Pickett is a great instructor.  I like the way he teaches the class and the way he presents the materials to us.  He makes the class seem less hard and I felt I learned a lot and feel a great appreciation towards science.  He is one of the *Best* instructors that I've had so far.
8. Professor Pickett,  Your class was diffficult, but I really appreciate how fair you were with the grading policy.  You are such a helpful person and willing to do so much to help us understand.  That's what makes you a good teacher.  The only thing is that your lectures are confusing to me because they go so fast.  I know it is hard with 50 minutes but maybe find a way to slow them down a bit.  Thanks for being the fair and nice person you are!
9. I like printing out the notes online, it made things easy.  He didn't mind if thins were late as long as we did them.
10. I liked how we could turn in our assignments lare and still receive full credit.  Sometimes I did not do the take-home experiments on time, but the turn-in policy helped me learn the material better and still get all the points.
11. I think he was an excellent instructor, because when I first enrolled in the class I was very scared.  I have heard many bad things about this course and how hard it is, but he really helped us through the class.  His information was clear, and I really appreciate his expectations on the homework.  Excellent Instructor!
12. The materials are covered way too quickly.  It is hard to follow his lectures.
13. I love your class - I appreciate your time and effort when I had problems / understanding - you were there to help (lost purse).
14. -Tests should *NOT* be cumulative -> too much information to be responsible for. - Students in this course should *NOT* be responsible for knowing how to do the various equations -> we're not physics majors, so it's not necessary! - need a new book and lab manual that fits together better and are more well-written -> needs to provide definitions -> class notes provided by Pickett were very useful, though, and made it easier to understand; good that notes were available online.
15. I think that having students do extra experiments at home is too much, isn't that what the lab is for?  Some students don't have time for extra experiments or are not able to complete them because they do not have the necessary things to complete them.
16. I found this class to be well taught.  He did an excellent job in presenting materials and was made available for questions.
17. Prof. Pickett was very approachable and willing to help.  He made this class interesting in the way he gave the information.
18. Good Job :)
19. I have never had an instructor so willing to help his students!  I had a very positive experience in this class.
20. During the semester, I was very sick and he gave me the opportunity to make up a missed test.  That was very considerate.  He was a nice professor.  I wish him good luck.
21. This class was very well taught.  I think that when students were called upon to help with experiments, it was useful in helping to learn material and should be done more often if time permits.
22. Always well prepared, great teacher!
23. Instructor brought lots of energy into the class, considering it's 8 am.
24. He's a great professor, I wish all the prof. were like him.
25. This instructor was really good.  I learned a lot from him.  The website with all the course notes was very helpful.  I think the university should make this class longer hours or eliminate some of the course work, because it was a lot of information in just 50 min.
26. Sometimes, some important concepts were skimmed over - but it is understandable since there is a lot of subject matter to cover.  Prof. was very prepared and always wanted to make sure that students understood everything.  I enjoyed this class.
27. This class was very interesting and fun to come to.  I really liked how you let us turn in work to be regraded for full credit.  It gave me a chance to bring up my grade.  Very good class.
28. Your class was well organized and structured.  Posting notes on the internet was awesome!  You have a wonderful way of presenting information through *very* helpful diagrams and pictures.
29. I really liked the fact that the test was "open-book" and we got to redo homework until we received the grade we desired.
30. Very good instructor.  Did a good job presenting the material.
31. Mr. Pickett is a great professor!  He went the extra mile to make sure his students teally learned the material and grasped the concepts.
32. :)
