Reading Quiz #1

1. (2 points)  The lab manual for experiment #1 makes an analogy between water flowing through pipes and the electrical circuit element we are studying today, the resistor.  A given amount of "push" (potential difference in the electrical circuit, or pressure difference in a pipe) affects the amount stuff that gets "pushed through" (electric current for the circuit, and water current in a pipe).

Using the two straws provided (small red one and regular drinking straw), try to blow through each one the same way (that is, with the same effort).  Which one is it easier to blow air through, and which one produces the largest "resistance" to your blowing? (1pt)

___________________________________________________________________________

If you blow twice as hard on the red straw, what do you think will happen to the rate at which the air flows through the straw.  What about the big drinking straw?  Explain. (1pt)
