you are familiar with to present in class.
Early
Childhood

letters will be read to you and the pictures have a bit of animation.
This easy-to-use app features a search bar, thesaurus, search history and word of the day. This is a great app for teaching antonyms, synonyms, sequencing, and word recognition.
Introduce or help your kids

10. Peekaboo Barn
A fantastic educational app for babies
and toddlers new to playing apps. You have the option of having the names of
the animals read in English or in Spanish as well as in a child’s voice for the
English version. The app also spells out the name of the animal for older
children who are learning to read.
11. Wheels on the Bus
The words on the app describing the
page “The wheels on the bus go round and round” remain in English, but click on
the musical note to find an option for the song to be sung to your child in
Spanish, French, German or other languages.
12. Star Walk
A great educational tool,
the Star Walk app is customized to your location, letting you see your night
sky in new ways by taking you on a virtual tour through the stars,
constellations and planets.
13. ABC Animals
Help young children learn
the alphabet and phonics with this cute, illustrated app. It is great for
beginning readers and works on phonics with bright colors, music, and very
engaging. Students will love this app that not only helps with letter
recognition but also helps with fluency.
14. Word Magic
Kids fill in the missing
letter to form words, accompanied by bright pictures. Not only does this help
with spelling but also helps educated children with vowels and CVC words.
15. Injini Child Development Game Suite
Injini Child Development Game Suite is
a set of play-based learning games for toddlers, preschoolers, and special
needs kids. It was developed over two years in collaboration with early
childhood experts and occupational and speech therapists.
16. My PlayHome
My PlayHome is a calming app that encourages open-ended play. Students will enjoy discovering the many interactive features built in to this seeming simple but multi-layered dollhouse app. There are no scores, deadlines, power ups, or lives to lose, just four fun-filled rooms to explore in a sweet and simple house.
17. Clifford’s BE BIG with Words
In this game, kids spell
out words so that Clifford and his friends can think of things to paint.
Clifford is one of the favorites with children and this app really shows how
excited Clifford is to teacher children how to read through colors, music, and
fun filled activities.
18. Interactive Alphabet
Interactive Alphabet is a lovely way to experience the alphabet. Students will want to play it over and over. From a home screen kids choose from among 26 colorful letters (that look a lot like refrigerator magnets). Each page has an age appropriate original illustration (like D is for Dinosaur), background music, and an animation for your students to discover.
19. Spell and Listen Cards Kids
Spell and Listen Cards Kids rearrange letters to
form basic words, improving their vocabulary and sight reading. This app will
help children recognize, spell, pronounce, and learn more about 550 everyday
words to strengthen his or her vocabulary.
20. TallyTots
TallyTots is a colorful, intuitive counting app that’s more polished than most.
Twenty numbered cards fan out over a blue sky dotted with fluffy white clouds.
After that, your toddler is in charge.
21. Shape-O! ABC’s
Shape-O! ABC’s is a sweet,
calming educational app that lets toddlers and preschoolers get their jigsaw
puzzle fix (drag-and-drop style) with everything from owls and mice to
burgers and robots. There are letters to be dragged and dropped too for a
little sneaky reading practice.
22. Spot the Dot
Designed by children’s
author David A. Carter, who wrote the best-selling pop-up book How Many Bugs in
a Box, Spot the Dot is a perfectly executed and visually appealing app that
teaches toddlers colors and fine motor skills.
23. Slice It!
Slice It! App divides various shapes into
equal sized pieces. The crumpled graph paper graphics are gorgeous, the music
is upbeat, and the navigation is seamless. This app is a wonderful way to
introduce math but in an engaging yet challenging way.
24. Licking Letters
Licking Letters teaches
kids aged 2-8 to spell with the help of a hungry frog named Hoppy. When they
tire of spelling the over 150 available words, they can customize the frog’s
outfit. There are lots of mini educational games and challenges built in. Best
of all, the level of difficulty auto-adjusts based on the student’s
performance.

Featured Movie
BrainPOP Featured Movie is an innovative educational app that delivers one short animated educational movie every day on a variety of topics. Your kids watch the hosts Tim and his robot pal Moby explore tons of subjects ranging from dinosaurs and aliens to natural disasters and the U.S. Constitution.
26. ABC Expedition
ABC Expedition is an
appealing animated alphabet app that introduces babies and toddlers to the
alphabet the animal way. It’s everything an app for this age group should be:
simple, colorful, and intuitive.
27. Zoola
Zoola is an app that asks younger students
questions like “What does the pig say?” and answers the question four different
ways. This app shows letter recognition, colors, animal sounds, shapes and
numbers all in a zoo themed app.

The iBooks
app allows students to download and read books. It includes the iBookstore, where you can download the latest best-selling books
or your favorite classics, day or night. Browse your library on a
beautiful bookshelf, tap a book to open it, flip through pages with a swipe or
a tap, and bookmark or add notes to your favorite passages.
29. Biscuit
A sweet puppy dog tale that’s enchanting
for the little ones regardless if they’ve read other Biscuit story books. See
what else Biscuit finds at the pumpkin patch besides pumpkins. We love that
this app also contains a coloring book and a sticker book feature too.
30. Berenstain Bear
Pre-schoolers can touch words
and characters to see the word read aloud to them, and turn the pages
themselves by touching the lower right corner. Can be read to them with the
audio or the text can be enlarged for all readers.
31. Book Word
An intuitive, educational word search game for new
readers, rabid wordsmiths, and everyone in between. Link letters left, right,
up, and down to build words and earn points with this fun app. Learn sight words and help your students learn
the expected high-frequency words they need to know by the end of 1st grade
with this cute app.
32. Wet Woo
This app is organized in channels that
include Animals, Fun Shows, Learn, Music, People, and Places and developers
have listed hundreds of hours of kid-friendly programming with everything from
funny kitten videos to a Discovery Education short biography of Ludwig van
Beethoven.
Elementary
1. NSF Science360
The National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Science360 provides easy access
to engaging science and engineering images and video from around the globe.
Content is either produced by NSF or gathered from scientists, colleges and
universities, and NSF science and engineering centers.
2. The Ruler
This app allows you to
measure things by using your finger to drag the marker across the screen.
Actual dimensions will be instantly displayed in centimeters or inches! Tap the
screen twice to save the size, and to view it again later. The ruler will work in
both portrait and landscape.
3. Stack the States
Stack the States is a
geography quiz game in which users are asked trivia questions (e.g. What
state's capital is Austin?) about U.S. states. When responding correctly, users
drop the state onto the bottom of the screen, attempting to stack the states
beyond a line about a third of
the way up. When the line
is reached, users are awarded a state as a prize.
4. Math Magic
Remember flashcards? Well,
think of this app like interactive flashcards that are a bit more visually
appealing than tattered index cards. Math Magic frames addition, subtraction,
and division problems like a game to engage young learners.
5. Fractions
The Fractions App is your online guide and tutorial to help young people with
learning fractions. The app uses a simple tactile interface where you can tap
the screen to create a fraction from an everyday objects like a pizza or a
chocolate bar. The difficulty level of the game increases as you master the
simpler fractions and then more questions in an increasing level of difficulty
are offered.
6. How Rocket Learned to Read
Watch and listen as words are highlighted while the story is read aloud by
actress Hope Davis. Turn off the narration and read at your own pace. Tap on
the words to hear them read back to you.
7. Grammar Up
Grammar Up is a multiple choice quiz system for English which provides
over 1,800 questions across 20 grammar categories. Grammar Up can help learners
to improve their grammar, word selection and vocabulary. Custom timer setting
can assist learners to improve response times under exam time constraints.
8. Manual for the United States of America
Kids can learn about and
read the Articles of Confederation, Declaration of Independence, Federalist
Papers, biographies of Supreme Court justices, and a lot more. This app is a
wonderful way for children to retain dates, historians, and learn about the USA
through pictures and audio.
9. Prepositions Remix
Prepositions Remix is highly interactive and it can be adjusted to meet
the needs of all students. Users are able to adjust the number of prepositions
played with on a session; adjust the type of feedback provided to the student,
and whether or not to provide with additional cues such as a second audio
production or written cues on the screen.
10. Grammar Up
Help kids learn adjectives,
nouns, verbs, adverbs, infinitives, gerunds, conjunctions, and other grammar
basics. Grammar Up is a multiple choice quiz

This classic game is now
available on the iPad and helps children of various
ages practice problem-solving and decision-making skills as they learn about
history and try to survive the great trek through the West.
Sid Meier’s Civilization
Revolution teaches kids about world civilizations, including Japan, Germany,
China, Spain, America, and others, as they lead their people to victory. This
app makes you feel as if you are in a history book, but in an engaging way.

This app uses an
Interactive Book approach with an easy to learn format and a simple step by
step guide. It also includes a quick
check while taking a tutorial to test your understanding of what you just read.
14. Grammar Dragon
The grammar dragon has captured all of your friends from the castle. You
must rescue a different person on each level by correctly identifying various
parts of speech. The touch mechanic of the game engages children in a hands-on
learning process, implementing kinesthetic learning. The game also incorporates

Catchy animated songs and rhymes make English language arts exciting!

Encourage your children to

25. Mathemagics – Mental Math Tricks
More advanced students can
practice multiplication, square numbers, and more. Use this before district
tests and they are bound to do well. It is great for teaching strategies and
standards for all levels of math.
26. Free Books
Help your children learn to

This app displays the night

to figure out where the stars are located and it will plot distances for you.
This app serves as a great
reference and review tool that catalogs and explains math formulas for geometry
and more. A must have when you are teaching strategies and skills for district
tests. This app can be used for reviewing weekly or district tests.

This free app is a great
tool for getting your kids to practice math skills each day. The brain Tuner is

This free app, derived from the website of the same name, gives students

used.
9. Algebra Pro
All major topics are provided with stunning visual graphics and
sequential steps for transference of learning from the app to homework and the
classroom. This app is easy to navigate and fun to use. There are a plethora of
examples designed to support concepts taught in all basic algebra classes at
the middle and high school levels. This is a perfect tutorial program for
the new Common Core Standards and higher expectations for middle school
mathematics curriculum.
10. Presidents VS Aliens
The title alone may be enough to snag the interest of middle schoolers, but Presidents vs. Aliens has solid educational
value, too. Presidents vs. Aliens challenges kids to learn historical facts to
help U.S. commanders-in-chief trounce a team of alien invaders. The app comes
with 44 educational flash cards to help players brush up on their presidential

11. Brushes
The painting application has been used to create four covers for The

Older middle-schoolers may be starting to tackle the

Confident in Who You Are: A Middle School Confidential Graphic Novel
This app’s focus on hot-button middle school issues like bullying, family
conflict, and changing friendships makes it worth checking out. This app is a
49-page digital adaptation of the first book in the award-winning Middle School
Confidential graphic novel series. Aimed at tweens and reluctant readers, the

15. World Book — This Day in History
If your middle school student prefers to learn in bite-sized pieces, check out

and South America. This app is great for students getting ready for High School
Pretests and Middle School Posttests.

Make life easier by organizing homework assignments with myHomework.
Once homework is entered, reminders will prompt the student in advance to get
the work done on time. Simple in concept and easy to use, myHomework also
offers access via the Web for a one-time in-app purchase, so that no matter
where a student is, they can see what is due and when.
19. U.S. Geography
Become an expert in U.S. Geography using this app from Discovery
Communications. The app is divided into seven different regions with six
categories of information for each. Learn about the culture in the Pacific
region or the land-forms of the mountain ranges. Once a student is
done studying they can take challenges and share
their achievements with friends and family on Facebook.
20. Vocabology
Vocabology is a free universal app that slowly builds a
student’s vocabulary by introducing them to new words and showing them how they
are used by giving several internet resources. Not only can students see how a
word is used in a sentence, they can also hear a sound clip of the word so
their pronunciation is correct. Included in the app is a quiz that reviews
words that the student has covered.
21. Frog Dissection
Learning about organs and organ systems used to be a
messy lab project for middle school students. Today, an entire frog dissection
can be done on the iPad. No more ethical concerns, no
more mess. Using 3D imaging a pupil can able to view the organs and organ
systems clearly. The student is guided through the dissection by a voice over
giving them step-by-step instructions. Frog Dissection is the winner of PeTA’s Mark Twain Ethical Science Award and IEAR – Best

22. The Gwaii – 3D Comic Book
If there is an underserved demographic on digital book scene it has to
be tweens. Comic books have long served as a means to get this age group to
engage with the written word, and The Gwaii
puts everything kids love about comics into a 3D iPad
comic book set in Northern Canada. The story is engaging and suspenseful, the
characters area host of mythological creates rendered beautifully and the special
effects are eye-popping.
23. Lobster Diver
Developed for grades 3 through 8, Lobster Diver makes understanding number and
operation standards fun for middle school and grade school children. Fractions can
be one of the more difficult math concepts to learn, but Lobster Diver makes it less stressful and even fun.

Articles is a user-friendly way for students to access the vast wealth of
information available in the modern replacement for encyclopedias. The app
presents the information from Wikipedia posts optimized for reading and display
the articles in a magazine-like format. The reader is easy on the eyes, and the
GUI is easy to navigate.
25. Flashcards Deluxe
With this app, users can enter flashcard information into the app
directly, browse quizlet.com for card sets created by users all over the world,
and even search the orangeorapple.com decks for a set that matches their needs.
The application allows you to share your decks with other users via a private
code or to make them available to the public.
26. NASA
This app invites you to discover a wealth of NASA information right on
your mobile device. The NASA app collects, customizes and delivers an extensive
selection of dynamically updated information, images and videos from various
online NASA sources in a convenient mobile package.
27. Kindle
The Kindle app is optimized for the iPad and
gives users the ability to read Kindle books, newspapers, and magazines on a
beautiful, easy-to-use interface. You’ll have access to over 1,000,000 books in
the Kindle Store plus over 100 newspapers and magazines. Amazon Whispersync automatically syncs your last page read,

30. Stack the Countries
Learning the names of countries is just the bare minimum of what
students will learn while playing Stack the Countries. They will also
learn capitals, landmarks, and geographical location. Stack the Countries
really contains three games in one. As the student progresses in the levels the
additional games unlock.

This app offers the digital book revolution to your pocket with a
reading interface that is unrivaled in its clarity and ease of use. With over 4
million downloads around the world, Stanza has become an iPad
phenomenon, and is featured as one of the top three Apple favorite.
32. Brain Thaw
Brain Thaw is an addictive puzzle game that will help keep your brain
sharp. You're Newton, the most clever penguin in the land, and you love to
snack on digits! Eat the right numbers to solve each puzzle according to a
given math rule (e.g., “Multiples of 3”). Watch out, though; fearsome yetis are
