Dear Alumni & Friends,
Each new academic year brings change, and that is especially true of the 2013-14 academic year at California State University, Long Beach.
As you may know, I became interim president on July 1. Prior to this appointment, I was the university’s provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. The CSULB campus has been my second home for nearly 25 years, and I am honored to be able to serve the university now as interim president. Our mission, centered on student success, was set in place by former CSULB presidents Robert C. Maxson and F. King Alexander. As a result, we are repeatedly recognized as being a national leader in providing high-quality, low-cost education.
You will be hearing more about our progress and plans for the future as we near the launch of our first-ever comprehensive campaign. In recent years, CSULB has intensified its efforts to mobilize community and philanthropic support, and the campaign will help us build on that success. This is a unique opportunity to tell our remarkable story to a wider audience and to secure the resources needed to accomplish our ambitious goals.
The truth is that any university can only be as great as its alumni and friends allow it to be. Your enthusiastic support has helped make CSULB a “university of distinction,” and it will continue to make great things possible in the months and years to come. Working together, we can and will ensure a bright future for current and future students. With your support, CSULB will continue to be recognized as being “among the nation’s best.”
