Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr. appointed Marisa Valdez Yeager (2001, MPA) to the 46th District Agricultural Association, Southern California Fair Board. She is manager of federal and state affairs at the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
Thomas P. Schurino (2003, M.A., occupational studies) teaches international business at Muskegon Community College in Michigan and was director of the Michigan Small Business Development Center for the Muskegon and Flint, Mich. Chambers of Commerce.
Robert Mejia (2004, B.A.; 2007, M.A., speech communication) was appointed assistant professor of communication at the State University of New York, Brockport, and recently received a grant to study the relationship between new communications infrastructure and the organization of urban and rural space from a transnational perspective. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Noah Holcomb (2008, B.A., recreation; 2011, M.S., recreation administration) is a professional mountain bike racer who recently opened the Stage21 Bikes showroom and boutique in Laguna Woods and took part in the 2012 Mountain Bike World Championships in France.
Michael P. Muñoz (2010, MPA) recently was promoted to a motor vehicle field representative at the California Department of Motor Vehicles’ Santa Barbara office. “My goal one day is to become a manager with the department, to both serve the community and make use of my master’s degree, which trained me public sector management,” he said.
Ashley Strong (2010, B.S., business administration–marketing) teaches English in Tanzania with the organization World Teach.
Nicolette Ulrich (2010, B.A., interpersonal organizational communication) is a volunteer with Peace Corps Senegal, where she is involved with the SeneGAD project that addresses gender equality and the Michele Sylvester Scholarship program for school girls.
Joshua P. Hestand (2011, B.S., business administration–finance) moved to Tennessee in 2012 and met his fiancée, Kelly. “In summation, after a hailstorm of life-changing situations, we were married in Nashville on Oct. 27 and sped away to enjoy our honeymoon. While in our honeymoon suite, my wife went into labor on our wedding night and our baby, Lily Annalise Hestand, was born the next day.”
Socorro Leandro (2012, B.A., anthropology) is serving in the Peace Corps in Senegal, assisting with HIV/AIDS projects.
USA Water Polo named Stephanie London Krogius (2012, M.A., sports management) as director of advancement, where she is responsible for fundraising initiatives for the national sports body.
