Welcome Family and Friends!
It is recommended that guests arrive at least one hour prior to the ceremony, allowing for 60 minutes to park and walk to the ceremony site. Dress should be appropriate for walking and sitting outdoors for two hours.
We would like to recommend that when leaving campus you avoid accessing the 405 Freeway from 7th Street because of traffic congesting. Alternative routes are both Palo Verde Avenue and Bellflower Boulevard, from which both the 405 North and South can be accessed.
Because of the large number of graduates at the largest ceremonies HHS, LA, Arts, and Business, will require tickets for each guest. Each student will receive 8 tickets so that all attendees have a pleasant experience. Tickets will be available for graduates to pick up from the Bookstore during cap and gown distribution.
Parking: The student parking lots on lower (north) campus, off of Atherton, and the parking structures will be open to the public for free parking during the ceremonies. Parking information: 562 985-4146
Seating: For all ceremonies, is available on a first–come, first-seated basis, in folding chairs and grandstands. Most guests will be sitting in the sun. Every person attending the ceremony will need a ticket: including children. If you plan on bringing small children it is recommended that you view the ceremony in the live-streaming room which will not require tickets.
Strollers: It is recommended that you leave any strollers outside the venue. Designated stroller areas will be available at the site. Please see an usher for stroller locations.
Web Streaming Rooms: Each ceremony will broadcast LIVE in multiple rooms on the campus. Some rooms will include LH 150 and 151, and PH1 140 and 141. Banners will display designated locations the day of the ceremony. These rooms are open to everyone and are on a first come first serve basis: no ticket will be required to watch the ceremony from a live streaming room.
TICKETS WILL BE REQUIRED FOR REENTRY TO THE VENUE.
PLEASE SEE AN USHER BEFORE EXITING.
Sun shades and umbrellas will not be allowed to block the view of others.
Students attending the ceremonies for Health & Human Services, Liberal Arts, College of the Arts, and Business, will require tickets for each guest as very large audiences are expected and seating is limited. Each student will receive 8 tickets so that all attendees have a pleasant experience. Tickets will be available for graduates to pick up from the Bookstore during cap and gown distribution.
Weather: Typically, it is damp and foggy in the mornings, warm or hot in the afternoons, and breezy and cool in the evenings after 5:00. Rain is uncommon. Light layers are recommended.
The walk from the parking areas to the Commencement site is uphill and requires approximately 30-45 minutes. Please contact the Office of Parking and Transportation Services for assistance and directions to special parking lots and drop off locations: 562 985-4146.
The University does not provide wheelchairs, guests must bring their own. There is not a separate seating area for guests in wheelchairs and the university does not reserve seating for any guests. Please arrive well before the start of the ceremony to allow enough time for the ceremony staff to lend assistance. For elderly guests and others who are unable to sit outside, the ceremonies will be broadcast live indoors, adjacent to the ceremony site. Some rooms will include LH 150 and 151, and PH1 140 and 141. Banners will display designated locations the day of the ceremony. These rooms are open to everyone and are on a first come first serve basis: no ticket will be required to watch the ceremony from a live streaming room.
