In the Fall of 1997 a group of young ladies were in search of an organization which could provide them with the moral support needed to excel in academics while promoting leadership, through community service, educational programs, and cultural activities. After being introduced to several organizations they felt that there was need for a Latina based sorority at California State University, Long Beach.
Soon after, in that same year, twenty-three ladies established an official interest group for Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Incorporated-making them the first out in the West Coast, since the sorority was founded in the East Coast (in New Jersey). In April of 1998, eleven determined ladies at CSULB established Beta Delta Chapter as the first chapter on the West Coast, paving the way for the rest of California and the West Coast. The ladies that established Beta Delta Chapter are Lizbeth Rivas, Jennifer Sidhom, Patricia Prieto, Rosa Zubiate, Susanna Murillo-Kish, Adriana Garcia, Leticia Valencia, Maribel Contreras-Ramirez, Alexandria Rosales, Veronica Herrera, and Araseli Velez. Even though these ladies were just freshman in college, they were able to stand strong and even become the first Latina sorority at CSULB.
Since then Beta Delta Chapter prides itself on their participation in community services such as L.A. AIDS Walk, Make a Difference Day, Dia de los Ninos, Blood Drives as well as fundraising efforts for hurricane victims, The Los Angeles Mission, and individuals in need of Bone Marrow matches. We annually participate in the Revlon/Run Walk for breast cancer upholding our chapterís philanthropy. To further cater toward Latina women, they established the annual Latina Connection Conference, so that for at least one day Latinas could get together and communicate at CSULB. In 2005, they further established their annual Santa Program and Project Street Heat at CSULB-catering toward children and those in need during the holiday season. Furthermore Beta Delta Chapter was awarded New Chapter of the Year by the National Board of Directors of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Incorporated for its many accomplishment in 1998.
Since established Beta Delta chapter has introduced new members who are dedicated to the sisterhood and academics. The chapter is proud to have several Cal State Long Beach alumni, which of many are pursuing higher education while still actively involved with the sorority through the California Graduate and Alumni chapters. While continuing to grow, Beta Delta Chapter promotes the ideals and goals of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Incorporated by practicing its principles of Unity, Love and Respect.
As of Spring 2010, the chapter has successful introduced 48 Sisters who have not only upheld their chapter at CSULB, but have paved the way for all the rest in the West Coast.
